Until recent years

with some of the painted decoration worn away and scuffs to the sides and loss of stain to the edges but we feel this gives it a very appealing patina and finish

just like the oak which is of a good colour and healthy patina

with a small metal shield cartouche beneath stamped `Ascension 1909` to remind us of his many feats and acts of courage
