最初の試作品は1992年にエヴァ・キングマによって作られました。これは、スライドがフルートの中に入り込み、通常の運指から上向きのグリッサンドを奏でるというアイデアに基づいていました。ヘッドを元の位置に戻すためのゴムバンドが付いていましたが、顎、歯、首にはあまり良くありませんでした。アイデア開発の初期段階における多くの「失敗」と同様に、この試作品は失敗ではありませんでした。なぜなら、ヘッドジョイントはフルートを短くするのではなく長くするために外側にスライドする必要があるという貴重な教訓を教えてくれたからです。
