CIE Bulleid Pallet Van - Brown (CIE roundel era) - Pack 1 WheelsetsAs palletised shipments became increasingly common, CI required wagons capable of handling this new type of freight. While bogie wagons suitable for sundries, bagged cement, and other traffic were already on the drawing board, an interim solution was needed. The result was the 12 ton Pallet Van, based on the standard triangulated wagon chassis. This development of the traditional van wagon featured offset sliding doors wide enough for pallet loading

Rotating axlebox hubs (with alternate axlebox covers for earlier versions)

they soon went to work on a variety of trains for the Coal

and retained this appearance until the first months of 1991 when Metals sub sector branding was applied

in November and wasn’t reunited with its famous name until the following February
