Soviet Airborne Forces began using the ASU 85 airborne assault gun from 1959, replacing the older opened topped ASU 57. Its primary role was as infantry support. It had only limited anti tank capability compared to the heavier guns equipping the main battle tanks like the T 55 and T 62 of the time. Supplied unassembled and unpainted.
