2022 Nuits-St Georges, Clos des Porrets St-Georges, 1er Cru, Domaine Henri Gouges, BurgundyDomaine Henri Gouges is one of the standout wineries in Nuits Saint Georges, Burgundy, and the Le Clos des Porrets is one of the best Premier Cru sites in the region. This Pinot Noir has generous volume and intensity: its supple, spicy red and blue fruit character has firm tannins that may need a few years in bottle to ease into their full potential.

It has a very generous nose of toasty oak and dark fruits

earth and mint aromas

exotic aromatics and pure supple flavours

open and full of swathes of ripe pear and honey

There’s a lovely balance here

The 2010 Cantenac Brown performed extremely well in the Southwold blind tasting

but glimpses of its class are already on show

Reduction renders the nose impossible to read
